CREATING SUSTAINABLE LIVELIHOODS FOR TRADITIONAL ARTISTS

Featured Artist

Venkat Raman Singh Shyam

Venkat Raman Singh Shyam, a visionary artist hailing from the Gond community, has developed a unique artistic language deeply embedded in his cultural heritage and spirituality. Drawing inspiration from symbols such as the Bindu representing the supreme god and the surrounding half-moon symbolizing his village and community, Venkat's distinctive style reflects influences akin to renowned artists like Dali and Picasso. His artistic journey commenced at the age of ten, as he began etching his surroundings onto various surfaces, guided by his late uncle, the esteemed Gond artist Jangarh Singh Shyam. Venkat's art seamlessly merges his clan's historical legends with contemporary perspectives, showcasing the dynamic nature of tradition and its evolving narratives. While firmly grounded in tradition and mythology, his work continuously evolves to resonate with diverse audiences, serving as a bridge between ancient tales and modern interpretations.
